News CommentaryThis is where you can find colorful commentary on recent news stories. 1/17/07 - Give me a break!I just stumbled across an NPR story on 2nd hand smoke that I find quite “alarming”. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=6491395 (listen to the audio for the story). What concerns me about the piece is the “passion” with which many “anti-smoking” proponents talk about the “health risks from 2nd hand smoke. They quote the Surgeon General’s recent health advisory and the fact the EPA says it kills 3,000 people a year. You’ll hear the Mayor of Dublin, CA saying……”It kills people! It boggles my mind how people can go off the deep end on second hand smoke and not recognize its inherent dangers!” The Surgeon General issued a health advisory on radon several years ago and recommended that ALL homeowners to test their homes for radon because there IS no “safe level”. Estimated annual deaths for 2nd hand smoke by the EPA are around 3,000 while radon is 21,000+. 21,000+/21,000+/21,000+/21,000+……ugh….Bueller? Stay tuned for more.. |
