Services

Kanah, Inc provides testing and mitigation for home owners, home inspectors, and real estate professionals.

Radon Testing: Testing is the only way to find if there's a problem in your home. This problem, if found, can be solved by mitigation to lower the levels to an acceptable level.

Testing fees:   $125
Travel fee:       $35  (for more than 30 miles outside Winston-Salem)

Radon Mitigation: Once your results are final and if your radon score is above 4.0 picoCuries per liter, you may need to mitigate.  Mitigation involves different steps depending on the type of property, but generally consists of drilling a hole into the ground, inserting a fan to suck out the gases, and installing a system to re-route those gases to the exterior of the home.  This is done with pipes and materials that would look like a gutter on the outside. Call us for an estimate.

Radon Consulting: Once you have your test results and you aren't sure how to proceed, we can consult with you to assess the situation.  This involves coming to your house and doing a full evaluation of the conditions and possible further testing to pinpoint source or sources of the radon gas. Consulting fees start at $500.  If you choose to mitigate, this fee will be credited towards your mitigation costs. Please contact us for more information on consulting.

Who should get a radon test?

Home Buyer or Seller:
The EPA has a great document titled “Home Buyer’s and Seller’s Guide to Radon” that every home buyer or seller should read. This is the EPA’s recommended protocol dealing with the transfer of real estate. http://www.epa.gov/radon/pubs/hmbyguid.html

Concerned Home Owners:
If you purchased your home before radon testing was really mainstream, you can also find information at the EPA's website. Their document titled "A Citizen's Guide to Radon" is appropriate for a homeowner looking for an overview of the issues. http://www.epa.gov/radon/pubs/citguide.html
